Cutting Audio Clips Down to the Part You Want
What the audio trimmer does
An audio trimmer keeps only the span between a start point and an end point you choose and discards everything before and after. This tool loads your upload, decodes it with the Web Audio API, and paints the whole clip as a waveform so you can see where the loud passages, beats, and silences fall. You mark the section to keep either by clicking directly on that waveform or by typing exact timestamps, then export the result as MP3 or WAV.
Two optional touches shape the edges of the cut: a fade-in that eases the clip up from silence at the start, and a fade-out that lets it settle back down at the end. Both durations are adjustable in seconds.
When you'd reach for it
The classic job is carving a ringtone or notification sound out of a full track — grab a thirty-second hook and drop the rest. It is equally at home trimming the dead air and false starts off the front of a voice memo or podcast recording, or lifting a short quote or music sample to share.
Because you can compare the original and trimmed versions side by side in the built-in player before downloading, it also works well for tightening the exact in and out points of a clip you plan to drop into a video edit.
Example: pulling a ringtone from a song
Say a four-minute song has the chorus you want starting around 0:45. Click the waveform near that beat to set the start, click again at roughly 1:15 to set the end, and add a one-second fade-in and fade-out so the clip does not begin or end with a jarring cut. Choose MP3 output, pick a bitrate, and the resulting thirty-second file is ready to use as a ringtone.
Notes and things to watch
Trimming to MP3 or WAV re-encodes the audio rather than copying the original bytes, so the export is a fresh render — WAV keeps full uncompressed quality, while MP3 trades some fidelity for a much smaller file at the bitrate you pick. Uploads can run up to 500MB across MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC, and M4A, though whether a given file decodes depends on the codecs your browser supports. Very long or high-resolution files can exhaust available memory, in which case a shorter selection usually processes cleanly.
